Question about making baked ziti

Pretty much any casserole dish like this you cook the meat first.

Thanks! Meat sauce sounds like a great idea - I will do that instead of adding chicken.


Wegman's has ground turkey sausage that I really like. Brown that and add it into your sauce.

This sounds kinda gross, TBH. If you want the protein to be chicken, I would just make a meat sauce with ground chicken.

Grilled chicken will be boring in baked ziti... use Italian chicken sausage.

I make a baked chicken rigatoni that is a crowd favorite. Includes chunks of sautéed chicken (thighs or breasts), red and green sweet peppers, onions and garlic in a tomato sauce layered with rigatoni, mozzarella and bechamel. It’s my own take on “chicken doggies” from central NY state in a baked version. I use sweet peppers instead of hot but you could do hot.

Ziti with meatballs is pretty traditional.
