Are they also allowing the parent referral form and optional questionnaire, though? She indicated those were useful to the committee, even though DCUM completely pooh poohs them as valuable. Now to be fair she might be lying through her teeth to make parents feel better; no clue. |
Inpool candidates have ahistorically been given the option of providing 2 additional work samples. Many inpool candidates don't submit those optional samples (uninvolved or overly confident parents, I'm guessing.) |
I don't think we get to submit 2 additional work samples. Here is what the email I received said: "For any student referred for full-time AAP services through any of the pathways (universal screener referral, teacher referral, or family referral), a file is created by the school with the following information: · HOPE Rating Scale (completed by a committee at the local school) · Progress reports · Standardized ability test score (e.g. NNAT, CogAT) · Standardized achievement test results (iReady, SOLs, etc.) · Optional Parent/Guardian Questionnaire · Additional academic data as available · A minimum of four work samples produced at school (at least two will be responses to opportunities to use AAP strategies or curriculum that happen in Tier 1 Access to Rigor AAP services. · Parents may submit up to two optional work samples. Please share with your AART at your local school by January 5, 2024. Schools may submit additional work samples if parents do not submit optional samples. " We didn't parent refer so I don't know for sure but I think even if we had already submitted our 2 work samples, we wouldn't be able to ADD any. We would only be able to modify what was already submitted (until Jan 5th). |
Yes. It’s just allowing those that have not provided the work samples an opportunity to do so because the child is in the pool and being evaluated. |
It's incredibly unfair that in pool families have all of winter break to pull together work samples for their children. I'm sure some of these tiger families have been doing enrichment up the wazoo over winter break with all this time on their hands. Another FCPS FAIL. |
I don't think the extra 20 days matter that much. Second, tiger families would have submitted theirs before 12/15 because they always meet the known deadline. |
Hmm, that's an option on how to spend the break, not my family's option, but to each its own, i'm not offended if anybody chooses I that, I (read as "you") could have chosen that if I (you) wanted it .... |
Anyone interested has had the last year - at the very least all Fall - to collect samples. Our AART suggested last Spring to start keeping notes for the Parent Questionnaire 🤷 |
Talk to your child’s teacher and the AART to see if they already have work samples collected at school for your child. If so, I wouldn’t worry about it. From what I remember, they have to mark which work samples were from school vs home (double check that though). Don’t you think the committee will take school samples more seriously? |
Please where can I submit the work ? On email or they need it physically? |
Email your school’s AART |
This... Either they weren't tracking it and only have 20 days at a time where they likely have other plans or have been tracking for 6+ months and were already prepared. |
They should only be allowed to submit work samples if they didn't do it before. It's not fair if they are allowed to submit ADDITIONAL work samples. Can anyone confirm - if you already sent in a parent referral, are you allowed to submit additional work samples??? |
This was a couple years ago, but I submitted photos of a few pages of a book my kid wrote and illustrated over the summer, a handful of original jokes he had composed, and proof of national level placement in a hobby. His math scores were extremely high so I felt it more important to embellish on his language arts capabilities and drive. |
You know how you could confirm? Email your AART. |
