We use different straps and things that we keep in the bag. Many people use bags at our gym for the same reason so this isn’t out of the ordinary.

Nope. Bags are a hazard in the gym.

+1 especially if the place is busy or small (assuming one of two since he had to jump in between sets. Imagine tripping on a bag strap and crashing into a rack of weighs…still he shouldn’t have touch the bag without looking around and asking first…

I clearly said it wasn’t busy, it wasn’t in the way, and I was right there. He could have at least asked if it was mine.

Never heard that and see people w/ bags at my gym all the time. There is no storage anymore, so there is no place to leave bags anyway.

Bags need to stay in locker room or entrance if there is none.

You can’t save a machine while you do something else.

The guy was okay.

I don’t use the lockers anymore after women were breaking into lockers and stealing things.

It’s not OK to touch people’s things!

I would have reported him to the manager and had him thrown out! He can’t touch other peoples things!

If she wasn’t on the machine then he can use it. If the bag was in the way then he can move it. If you don’t want people touching your stuff don’t leave it in their way. Put it in a corner out of the way. Such a hazard.

You and your friend were rude. Don't leave bags on the floor, and don't "save" machines.

Your friend is wrong. You can't reserve machines.

I would have told him to at least wipe his gross sweat off.

Bags don’t belong in the gym, your friend wasn’t actively using the machine, not sure why he couldn’t have done something else. Not a big deal all around.

I think people are telling you what the general etiquette is and their thoughts but you don’t want to hear it.

Specific to your gym, does it have lockers? And can you find out regarding your specific gym if they allow bags on the floor?

Some people are there to do a quick workout. Your friend shouldn't leave a bag on equipment she isn't using while she chats with you or makes a TikTok video of you both.
