Summer Geometry logistics

We are familiar with the course load and are fine with it, planning on 6 hours a day. For reference: child is taking Algebra I Honors in 7th grade this year and has 100% in the course so far and really wants to take Geometry this summer; I just want to make travel plans but need these dates first. Synchronous Class Time

One-hour lessons determined by instructor.
Time will be between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Asynchronous Class Work

Students will work six to seven hours daily.
This is in addition to the daily synchronous lesson.
Testing (In-Person)

Midterm: Wednesday, July 10, 2024 - afternoon or evening
Final: Wednesday, July 24, 2024 - afternoon or evening
SOL: TBD

High school and middle school students who are seeking new or repeat credit.
Successful completion of Algebra 1/Honors Algebra 1.

Time will be between 8 a.m. to 10 am or 12 pm to 2 p.m.
Time will be chosen during registration.

Cannot believe people do this for a leg up. This sounds terrible.

Leg up or DC is just getting it out of the way so s/he can do better things than sit in Geometry for a whole year learning nothing.

Why would they learn nothing if they “sit through a whole year” of geometry in 8th grade? You would seriously subject your 13 yr old to 6-8+ hours of geometry per day over the summer? Just so they can take Alg II in 8th? If they were that great at math they wouldn’t need to take full courses over the summer to get ahead.

Many kids have already taken a year of geometry (via RSM or AOPS). They just need the checkmark by the "official" FCPS course. These kids wont' spend 6-8 hours per day - they do the single hour of lecture and race through the work in 30 minutes. It's not hard if you already know it (and are talented in math).

That makes more sense, but it doesn’t sound like this is OP’s child’s case. Their post says they are planning for their child to spend 6 hrs per day working on math.
