We had an email via parentvue. My 5th grader qualifies a few days a week, but from 8-8:30 am. I asked if this was virtual or in person and what the kids do between tutoring and start of school, no response. We said YES to the extra help and agree with PP above - we will drop the program if it is not working for us.

At our 9 am start school, morning recess starts at 8:30 am, so that would be what they do in between. What time are kids allowed to be dropped off at your school?

You’re right it’s not part of the school day, but they literally call it “morning recess,” and it’s supervised by school staff. I don’t understand your point?

I wish more APS elementary schools did this. My kid used to have to wait on the blacktop next to the playground to be admitted, but wasn't allowed to play. Such a waste of unused time.

Glebe allows kids to play in the field/basketball in the mornings it's not official, but it's a great way to burn some energy!

The "all in" tutoring program is badly defined by the state. APS already does small group interventions during the school day. This all in program is just window dressing -- basically tutoring by volunteers. Do it if you want to but it won't be a game changer. Of course, the governor will take credit for test score increases but those will be due to APS's school day interventions, not this casual tutoring program.

Most improvements will be made via private tutors or parents jumping in to teach their kids to read at home.

Sure, parents have always done that in Arlington. Private tutoring are not new since 2020. Neither are parents teaching their kids to read.

We have one part time and 2 full time interventionists.
