Leading causes of divorce

It is actually a lot of the same people doing the divorcing in those stats--the second and third marriages.

"Couples who have friends who divorce have a 75% increase in the risk of their own marriage ending. Even couples with two degrees of separation from divorce still have a 33% greater risk."

This makes no sense. Who doesn’t have a friend who’s divorced? That’s everybody.

Money is the biggest reasons couples divorce.

lack of family support
lack of intimacy
too much conflict and
financial stress.

If it does have to do with the ILs, would the ILs not get great satisfaction from you divorcing? Why give miserable ILs that happiness? Nope.

I believe that most people who divorce, do so because of money issues. If someone thinks they are getting a windfall when their ILs die, they are often unpleasantly surprised.

Lack of intimacy I believe is true in many divorces, but cheating men often lie about "lack of intimacy" to the AP. Or maybe the husband just disgusts the wife, or the wife disgusts the husband, for all we know.

Agree. Lack of pragmatism and rational thinking. Thinking with emotions instead of using their brains

That stat is very surprising reading this forum and also all the “gray divorces” yiu hear about at empty nest time.

The ones in our neighborhood/school/community were after 15-25 years.

Meryl Streep is divorcing after 45 years.

In my opinion one of the key reason is lack of emotional support from husbands. This is something wives value so yet husbands fail to deliver.

I don't have any friends or family who are divorced.

Translation: Women get emotional when I cheat or treat her like a maid. If they were rational and pragmatic, they'd just put up with it because it's easier to stay married.

Men have emotions. They just don't control them well and often bury them till they explode. No one can take a look at the world today or the past and say that overall men are good at controlling their emotions. All they can say is that some men are good at hiding their emotions. Emotions are human nature. Controlling them is key. Both inward or external lack of control of emotions are problems in society.

Money is the reason people stay married

The leading cause of divorce is very simple. If two people don't agree on how to live key factors in life, they cannot get along. It's that simple.

1. Money.
2. Kids.
3. Household.

Those are three big ones. If a couple can't agree or give a little so they agree on these three it's over.

Is this a vailed reference to the Arlington house explosion?

Correct. And the higher the level of education with corresponding higher incomes, the less chance of divorce.

The title is what is interesting: lack of family support is the leading cause cited in 43% of marriages. I guess that means that the in-laws disapprove? Maybe the in-laws disapproving is less the causal factor and a sign that the partner really is bad for you. But who knows.

I bet "lack of family support" means that the husband won't stand up for his wife to his family and vice versa.
