Vyvanse Shortage

So now I’m on week 3 of my kid taking my lower dosage and week 5 without. I call every day or two and have them check the entire dmv area. No dice.

The generic is the problem. They have name brand in stock, but our insurance took it off the formulary mid year when the generic was released.

This is our problem too except I live in an area where there is zero generic available. None. Nada. Vyvanse is available but it’s now $200 for a 30 day supply. I’ve been going back and forth with insurance about it.

You’re lucky it’s “only” 200. I recently filled for my DD who can absolutely not go without it, and it was 350 for the 30 day supply. Had the generic been available, it would’ve been a 35 copay.

Anyone finding Vyvanse or Adderall??
I've been calling all day and nobody has either. Costco won't even talk to us if we aren't a regular pharmacy customer. Just being a member doesn't count.

Any luck getting insurance to cover the brand name? It's $511 at Giant and my insurance will pay $200 if the dr requests a formulary exception. It's hard to find but more likely than the generic which seems like a zero percent chance. Some pharmacies haven't had it for a year.

Why aren't health insurance companies covering the brand name when generic is not available?

Call the independent pharmacies. I’ve been able to fill mine at the beginning of the month at Rodman’s. It’s name brand so I have a high copay, but I’m relieved I found it at all.

I told Walgreens that I wouldn’t pay $200 and I will wait for generic, but they can’t get generic so maybe that was a mistake.

Call around til you find it. It’s like a part time job.

I posted in another Vyvanse thread. We use Express Scripts. Even they were out of generic which is unusual, so we did get approval for brand. I had an emergency 7 day prescription while we waited on mail order but couldn’t get generic filled anywhere so we had to do brand for that too.

I called 17 pharmacies. I think we just need to try something else

Has anyone had luck in the last week or two?

Any luck finding this anywhere?

If you've switched from Vyvanse to a different drug, what have you found most effective? Concerta?

I was able to get chewable in 20 mg for my DS.

I know Congress is useless these days but this seems like a public health emergency. My mother couldn’t find her diabetes medication last month and had to switch brands and call all over. This is crazy. Is anything being done to make this problem better? It’s been going on for some time with no end in sight. Reminds me of when baby formula ran out a couple years ago.

Honestly, I was just thinking about the baby formula comparison today as I gambled on where to tell my psych to send my Rx this month.
