if your son goes to college in New England …

Many people on this site don’t live in dmv, just look at the boston, LA, etc forums. I assume many of those people are like me who once lived in DC, and others just stumbled on the site while searching online for info. In all cases they must find the info on this site useful, I know I do.

My son is a sophomore at UMass and wears a heavy coat in the winter.

My main concern about the Carhartt sweater is that it would be heavy and impossible to wash.

Great point re the sweatshirt - I have a very heavy warm sweatshirt that takes forever to dry. My kid is also at BC! What boots does your son wear there? Like OP, mine didn’t wear a coat or boots etc in HS, unless skiing.

He wears LL Bean boots. Very old school.

I went to BC long ago. There were many days when it was cold AND raining, so one of those coats that has an outer shell that repels rain & a removable inner lining would be great. It would allow kid to adjust to the full array of crappy weather they will encounter. Also agree a heavy Carhartt sweatshirt will be very useful. Ditto the wool socks.

And to the poster who told me to land the helicopter, I asked for an idea of which heft sweatshirt to buy my son for xmas since he doesn’t wear a jacket, I didn’t say I was battling with him over wearing a jacket. I am guessing you are extrapolating based on some battles in your own home, and I am sorry for that.

Bizarre that you’re on a DMV website from North Carolina asking questions about a son that goes to school in New England?

I'm from NC and posted on here asking about socks for my kid in college in Pennsylvania. No one seemed confused so maybe it's just you?

There’s nothing bizarre about this.

Ignore the weird gatekeepers on this forum who somehow don’t get that many topics are not DC specific. So odd that they care on an open forum.

Yep. I like in Massachusetts and my kids rarely wear a jacket. It's not a battle I care about - when they get cold enough they will wear one.
