Are there any summer swim programs to supplement summer swim?

It doesn't need to be anything too intense or heavy on the instructional aspect of it, even 60-90 minutes of swimming a couple of times a week would be fine. Is there anything like this in Montgomery County?

Curious -- why add more swimming when I assume he is swimming 5 days a week with his summer team?

To clear a few things up, my pool does not allow kids to attend both the morning and afternoon sessions. Also, my DC will be at camp some of those weeks and can only attend the afternoon practices those weeks. There is no Friday afternoon practice, so we're talking 3 practices a week since the B meets are Wednesdays. Not only that, but the afternoon practices are very crowded and from past experience there hasn't been a whole lot of continuous swimming in them. So I would just like to be able to add a couple of practices to the 3 very basic practices.

To the person who suggested Fins, thank you, I will look into that.

We do camps that start late morning or in the afternoon only so we can do morning practices.

I mean that’s great for you, but that doesn’t work for most working parents.
OP, my kid also did FINS (although not in the summer) and enjoyed it. It was their springboard to joining club swim.

Often, the summer coaches offer private lessons. Check in with the coach at your summer pool.

Doubling up practices (if allowed by your summer club) is good - once your child has the requisite technique down pat and clean. There's no point in continuing to practice bad form, which only makes it harder to fix down the road.

Quality over quantity.

^^ This is the correct answer - she can just attend both morning and afternoon practice a couple of days a week. You can also ask your coach or around the team if anyone is giving private lessons. Some of our swimmers who swim year around would also give 1 on 1 lessons to the younger kids. A couple of years ago there was a girl who is now swimming D1 but was a senior at the time who worked with my 7yo daughter a number of times over the summer which really worked out well and helped speed up her learning curve.

We are in Virginia - our team offers morning and afternoon practices, but you are only allowed to attend one or the other due to lane space. Also, for a 10 year old two practices a day is the way to burn out. You would be better off doing private coaching once or twice a week at that age - perfect technique instead of garbage yards.

IDK...my DCs do 9 practices + 2 meets per week with summer team, plus some private lessons now and then for one of them. It's all-consuming and a lot of fun. They're legal in everything and the practices are age-grouped so they can be challenged. Stamina + friends...what's not to like?

Ours offers only morning practices when school is out. Interesting that some offer morning and afternoon.

Our summer team only has morning practices. Many use an au pair or nanny. But the practices are also very early so you can do a morning practice and still drop off at nearby camps by 9 or 9:30 AM.

Might depend on the interests, schedules, and numbers of the coaching staff? We're not a large or super-competitive team (MCSL, top-third division), but the team spirit is very strong and we have quite a few assistant and junior coaches who have come up through the ranks over the years. Our head coach is at everything and so.almost always are the lead assistants.

I like having both am and pm practices. Catches different groups of kids each time, works around changing schedules, different vibe (and different temperatures!) at different times of day. At our pool am practice tends to be more detail-oriented and pm practice more energetic, if that makes sense (due to bigger groups and more noise at the open pool).

Most of the larger clubs gave summer swim but it is usually long course meters (LCM) vs Sep-Apr/May which is SCY and summer swim in NVSL which is mostly SCM.
