Yes. I'm from CT and have heard literally the same conversations in my life. |
So sweet that the previous poster asked whether you work for a non-profit. There are tons of people at non-profits who come from family money and/or have high-income spouses. That's why they can afford to work for non-profits and why non-profits can pay so poorly. |
| I remember being in Boston once in mid-autumn and thinking, boy, these people know how to wear a sweater! Great-looking sweaters everywhere! |
| Say what? Nickel and diming to keep per diem money is characteristic of every DC government staffer I ever traveled with! |
| Yep, it goes back to the days of the Mayflower and Deacon Chapin and all that jazz. And those direct descendants who moved slightly west to Michigan and Ohio took that mindset with them. You can see the NE WASP frugal mentality alive and well with its cousins in Grosse Pointe Farms. |
I’ve noticed auto correct does things like that. |
This all sounds normal to me. From western MA. |
No WASP family would host a potluck wedding. |

Welp, this didn't go the direction OP wanted it to.
OP, New Englanders are proud to be cheap - you can call them what you want, they generally do not care about anything anyone else says or does. Different mentality than the DMV area.

| Lived in/near Boston ages 15-22. Hated it. People’s personalities were as bad as their driving skills. |
Pretty sure they don't miss you. |
