Birthday party on a holiday

We are often away. I personally don’t like parties on holiday weekends.

I agree with the PP who said check with the families of 2 or 3 of the closest friends and then go for it. This is true of every party/event regardless of if it’s on a holiday. Some people will be out of town or have a conflict. Some won’t. As long as the close friends can come, your kid will likely have fun.

(Or even say, we’ll be happy to drive to/from your house?) But we have a lot of friends who go skiing on those weekends who would be out of town.
My general theory on birthday parties - ask the two friends your kid most wants there. If they can do it at least you know the birthday kid will have their besties around.

Oh, FFS.

It depends on the day off - federal holiday, yes, because I have the day off and can drop them off; however there's a small chance we may be traveling that weekend. If it's just a random school day off that I don't also have off, then no, because they'll be in camp and I'll be at work.

My DD's birthday is usually Memorial Day weekend and we specifically have her party the weekend before or after because so many people travel that weekend.

Agreed, ask the closest friends and plan around them. Even if you can provide transportation, this won’t work for working parents. Many kids are at day camps, not at home.

Thank you for making me laugh tonight!
