I thought Tufts was good, but . . .

NP. OP can’t be an actual, functional adult, can she? She is quite obviously a sad teen, right? I cannot imagine going through life as a normal, healthy adult thinking like she does. Crazy.

It's still a great school. In Boston, on par with BC but has a very different feel. Go visit. If you like it, apply. If not, apply somewhere else that you do like.

This thread is so odd.

Fascinating.

Tufts is clearly overrated compared to its Boston peers, BC, BU, NU. Tufts outcome is the worst as well.

My kid was admitted to BC but waitlisted (and then offered admissions) to Tufts last year. Also waitlisted to BU. Admitted to NE. If your kid wants to be in Boston they should apply to them all. Other similar students she knows had a differing mix of outcomes (admitted to BU, but rejected at BC, etc.)

Tufts was ranked in the high 20s/low 30s for many years. The new US News ranking formula moved a lot of privates downward and publics upward. The quality of Tufts didn't change from 2022 to 2023.

Plus US News underranked Tufts even then…

Growing up in MA it was always quite clear that Tufts was much better than BC (and always got better MA students). There was no question.

+100000000

The new USNWR rankings sent are pointless (previous ones were not all that good either---not a fan of rankings).

Search schools and find the best fit for your kid, then apply to several in the Reach/target/safety categories.

IYKYK. People who know do not post these ridiculous threads - but keep checking your "rankings", OP!

As a graduate of another school that took a tumble in the rankings this year due to the new formula, I in no way think the quality of the school itself slipped.

U or Rochester? I know it tumbled.
I'm curious why BC didn't get whacked in the same way - solely because of its being one of the most expensive colleges in the US and not known for amazing financial or merit aid.
But I haven't studied the new USNWR metrics enough to know.

Tufts was always a tougher admit than BC, always had more respect as an academic institution. But BC has always been a big Boston/MA school - the alumni network is probably more useful in the area than almost any other school. They're both great schools, as is BU.

Anonymous wrote:What a bizarre post. Why does it matter if Tufts is below BC? All of these colleges are good. You'd be better off asking your colleagues more about their experiences unless you are a troll. Which you probably are.

My kid may apply, but she will be asking my friends and her friends who are alums and current students.

BC lol!! 😂 what planet?

Why do you act like USNWR is the Bible?

Like your friends who liked the school were wrong or misleading?

You really have to temper your faith in that single source of “credibility.”

Students’ lived experiences should carry a lot of weight.

Weird post. What's wrong with you?

Tufts is an EXCELLENT engineering school

Anonymous wrote:Just starting to look as we have a junior DD. I've had both coworkers who have gone to Tufts and friends whose kids go there. They've all acted like Tufts is just a smaller version of Harvard or a bigger version of Williams. But I just read USNWR and it's 40, below BC and Rutgers! I feel like the joke's been on me all these years as I put up with the arrogance.

There are three sets of rankings on US news and world report that are helpful for figuring out a shotgun or application strategy

1. Ivy, ivy plus schools; ranked one through Vanderbilt.

2. Ivy minus schools and a few other top 25. Vanderbilt through NYU.

3. NYU and down.

These tiers have different levels of selectivity, different strategies with respect to applications, and just different levels of scrutiny.
