The Bee Sting. It’s long but really enjoying it

Just finished 12 Months to Live by James Patterson and Mike Lupica. It was an impulse buy at Costco and not something I normally would pick up. I liked it okay, but with over 100 short chapters in a less than 400 page book, I feel like I paid for a lot of empty paper. The book is about a top notch criminal attorney who gets a cancer diagnosis at the start of a murder trial. It was OK but I'm donating it, too unrealistic and a bit dry & dull.

Just started The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney. It's about 4 kids about to inherit a trust fund called the nest, when one of them gets into an accident and the mom designates the trust to payoff a lawsuit. The other three sibs are rightfully upset and so far, I'm finding the dysfunctional family rather endearing.

It's about -- well, it's about an elderly lady who is up to no good. And no one suspects her because she is elderly.
I thought it was awesome. It's a short book at just under 200 pages. The audio version is 3 hours long.
I plan to check out what else this author has written because I really liked this one. I see there is a sequel to the one I just read.

That’s one of the best titles I’ve ever heard!

Winter Street by Elin Hilderbrand as recommended on here for a holiday read

Oh I loved that book! Can I ask why you don't like historical fiction? I've found that I really enjoy it because I feel like I am learning while still reading something "easy" (i.e. doesn't feel like a textbook).

Sorry- forgot to mention plot. Domestic suspense. Takes place in NYC. The head of admissions in a ritzy private school and a parent are the main characters.

I'm looking for something new and decided to try this based on what you said!

Ooh that sounds just up my alley.

I'm reading a pretty terrible but fun cozy mystery - Death Comes to Marlow

Next up I am planning to read the first book in the Slow Horses series. We're on the third season of the tv show now, and I LOVE it - there was a big profile of the author of the books the show is based on in the Times yesterday.

I just put the audiobook on hold based on the title alone.

The North Woods - adore it.

Master Slave Husband Wife - just started, but it's excellent so far - nonfiction reads like a novel.

I also checked out The Elderly Lady is up to no good. Thanks for the recommendation!

I just finished Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh. The movie of the book is coming out next week. I loved her writing style and its oddness. It’s bleak and may have an unreliable narrator. Not sure it all works, though, but unique and well-written. She also wrote My Year of Rest and Relaxation, which I’m interested in reading now.

Good to hear about The North Woods. Waiting for it at the library.

I tried reading this when it first came out years ago- I just could not get past the first few pages, are you finding it easy to read?

I saw it’s a show now, so I’d like to give it a try again

That why I tried again - I also quit the first time after the first number of pages. It picks up around by page 50. I liked it. 4.5/5
