Spring break under 12k?

Our family of 5 booked a trip to Scottsdale, AZ. $600 flights, and booked a 1BR villa on Redweek for $2500 https://www.redweek.com/resort/P4939-the-westin-kierland-villas/timeshare-rentals

so $5500 (still gotta get rental car)

I waited for prices to Phoenix to go down and they have only gone up. It’s crazy.

Not going to say it’s an easy drive, but it’s not the end of the world. To me, it’s insane to pay that much for flights to Florida. Out of principle, I would drive.

For perspective, our spring break to Italy last year, for one week, was probably around $6000. It helped that we got bargain flights for $750 roundtrip (on United, not some fly-by-night Iceland based startup) and paid for two nights hotel with points. I know things are more expensive, but $5000 to fly to Florida is a hard no.

About 12 K for a house in siesta key for a week and flights out Chicago. Any other ideas for where we could go for this amount of money that would ideally be warm?

Next year book earlier, way earlier. It’s a huge part of your issue. We booked spring break this past summer and always do. Stay in a hotel instead of a house or stay a few blocks off the beach. Also consider cruising. Even spring break week would be way less than $12k even with flights (as long as you don’t do Disney.)

+1

Cruising can be cheaper.

But flights were already expensive this summer.

We got nonstop DCA to PHX for $400RT.

Most people are aiming for the Caribbean, CA, or Europe for spring break…not phoenix.

While Phoenix might not be at the top of anybody’s list, Arizona has lots of great places for spring break. We did Tucson, Sedona and Grand Canyon for spring break. It was a great trip. While it’s not my cup of tea, some really like Scottsdale.

MOST people are not going on spring break because they have to work.

We were there for spring break years ago, and yes, it was cold, but still fun. Also, it wasn’t crowded, which was nice.

Cruise is your cheapest and easiest bet. Be warned though that Spring Break tends to be one of the most crowded times for cruise ships. Tons of kids running around, some unsupervised while the parents get hammered somewhere.

OP I know you said Siesta Key is pricey but have you priced out accommodations in Orlando? They tend to be extremely affordable. You could rent a property or room at a nice resort for several days and just spend 1 or 2 days at a park, and the kids would still have fun bc there’s tons to do down there. And the resorts have fun family and kid activities, and beautiful pools (and hot tubs).

Hilton Head is our jam. If you look now you should be able to find something under $12k for sure.

I wish more people felt this way bc we are going and will head to GC and Sedona and by all accounts, Spring Break is crazy busy. The cheapest non-stop I see right now for Phoenix is about $700/pp for dates we want to go.
