49 yo woman. Diagnosed at 46. Lost 80 lbs (the 80 I had gained over the previous decade) bw 47-48. Maintained over last year
Tried vyvanse for 2 weeks initially, but was so constipated with a hemorrhoid that I couldn’t focus and so stopped.

1. Mindset - I worked on my thoughts around my body, my brain, my needs and wants. Read / listen to books podcasts etc about adhd, somatics / neuroplasticity / food and weight etc

2. Shifting my inner critic to a voice of compassion - focusing on how my brain is working instead of how it should be working

3. Understanding what I need - breaks instead of “pushing through” overwhelm.

4. Giving myself more pleasure - not deprivation. Fun activities. Fresh air and sunshine!

5. Exercise - soooo necessary for natural feel good highs and hormones. I love weight lifting and outdoor hiking. These are my medications!

6. Meditation and journaling - again a neuroplasticity, exercising prefrontal , calming system

7. Food - tracking for calories. And HUGE emphasis on great quality foods with big flavor. Nutrition, lots of yummy veggies (I know how to cook well), protein, some treats.

Eating is a huge pleasure for me - I need the satisfaction of texture and colors in addition t flavor.

Me again - developing curiosity and compassion about my brain and habits and being my own watcher (esp through meditation, journaling) allows me to step back and consider what I need - I may need a break. Or a nap instead of the feel good hits of 12 cookies. Or a walk outside. I have a desk job that requires concentration but I work from home so have flexibility to do these things.

(Me again - after just finishing an orange theory class, where I do 2G and strength 45 / 50 classes for weight lifting. I realized that I like these classes because I’ve reached decision fatigue in life - work, kids, dog, household. So I can show up and someone else tells me what to do and there is VARIETY!!!)

Yes. That is what Wegovy is and it is marketed for weight loss rather than for diabetes.

OP Here - I have a prescription for Wegovy, just can't find it instock anywhere. I've heard it should be more available in January... we shall see.

Thanks for your list 7:22! You definitely included some things I'd like to start doing, but again, they never last long. Yay ADHD lol.

Wegovy. I swear it has curbed my shopping as much as my eating.

OP Here - can't find it anywhere. My Dr. just gave me a prescription for Zepbound (Mounjaro). I need my insurance to freak'n deny coverage already so I can use the savings card and grab it. Hopefully that happens today!

Hold up! There’s a connection between being overweight and ADHD? My therapist pre-pandemic suspected I have ADHD but I never did anything about it because I have a fib and figured I couldn’t take the drugs to treat it. But i do need to lose 60 lbs. Help!

Semaglutide helps with ADHD? I have so much weight to lose, am dragging my feet on any of the GLP-1 drugs. It was suggested to me in college by the psychiatrist that I was seeing that I probably had ADHD (but I didn’t hae the money for a full evaluation). The idea that I might finally be able to carve off the weight and perhaps focus better is surreal.

Dopamine hits from food. I seek mine from exercise / weight lifting now.
