Yup. There is a systematic work stoppage by a bunch of government employees that are allowing criminals to run loose on DC. It's a combination of apathy, bad incentives, ideology run-a-muck, and a bit of sociopathy. And none of these people were voted into their jobs, so there's very little we the citizens can do to change the situation. |

I agree with all the ideas proposed, except more bike lanes! Hahaha. Definitely hold the prosecutor accountable— but how? Need to turn over the Council and elect more independents. Need more cops on the street. Need to hone in on repeat offenders- no more catch and release. Need to get a crime lab.
Dont turn off the outrage switch or look away and feel helpless. DC Democrat, 20 year resident of Shaw/U street. |
| Janeese Lewis George is the face of soft-on-crime policies in Washington D.C. She's up for reelection next year. Throw her out and send a message. |
But if you review the data, the entire point is that getting rid of JLG won't do anything to reverse the worrying trend. DC's crime problem stops and starts with the prosecution and the courts, plus some element of MPD not getting "good enough" evidence to satisfy prosecutors and certain judges. Read this: https://dccrimefacts.substack.com/p/the-rhetoric-and-reality-of-dcs-prosecutors Changing the composition of the Council won't really do much except assuage some feelings for about 5 minutes. And then you're still stuck with a broken USAO. |
Sending a message sends a message. Other members of the council will see the benefit of raising hell about this crime wave, instead of pretending it doesn’t exist. |
Except that's all BS. The mayor and the city council have all the power they need to crack down on crime. We don't need to blame our problems on some unaccountable bogeyman behind the curtain. Bower and the police department have offered a million proposals, only to see them shot down by the city council. JLG knows her pro-crime policies are wildly unpopular and she's in danger of losing her primary next year, so now her office is pretending the city council is actually powerless when it comes to crime. |
Dealing with crime is one of our elected leaders' most basic responsibilities. |
| Anyone with the means to escape DC should do so. Stay and deal with the consequences. |
Your talking points are too obvious. Try masking them a little so it seems more like an average person. It's like listening to someone on Facebook whine about demonrats. Just not a serious conversation. |
| Thanks Charles Allen! |
Everything these criminals are doing is already against the law. You’re talking about feelings, not facts. The courts and prosecutors are failing us miserably. I do hold Bowser accountable for the crime lab issue. Wtf? Get it accredited. |
| The obvious solution is to keep voting for democrats. Next time will be different! |
And Charles Allen, too. |
So do nothing? Anything would be better than the status quo. |
