Late work policy?

My kids (at Deal) would do no work until the last week of a quarter. Get a WS in all assignments. Turn in everything. Get an A for the quarter. Next quarter: same thing. My youngest (of 3) was especially proficient (or should I say guilty) of this. She had it down to a science. She literally did not do any work outside of 4 weeks during the school year. She would retake most exams. It was ridiculous.

Anyway, the privates my kids are in (Big3 for what it's worth) don't allow any late work. No retakes. Maybe once per year a teacher will give test corrections when the class average on an exam is a 60 or 70. Basically you get what you get and you don't get upset.

How did that work? The highest grade you can get on a late assignment at Deal is 85, and there's a cap on the score you can get on a retake test, too.

Our k-8’s policy is 5 points off for each day late for assignments, and no retakes (generally) for tests. There was one grammar test that so many kids just bombed that the teacher allowed a retake as a one-time thing. Some classes (math, mostly) allowed or even required test corrections to be handed in for a few extra points back.

10 points a day here. Sucks to be my son, who often forgets his homework in his locker, misfiles it in the wrong folder, etc. But he does this less often now, which is why I am 100% on board with the policy.

Most of the teachers at my kid's school have a grade letter per day late policy.
