Identical twin- surprise!

Anonymous
My cousins are fraternal twins, but I thought they were identical because I couldn't tell them apart growing up. They are both gay so they like to call themselves a researcher's dream, lol.

Nice for you to have confirmation and cousinbro is so cute.

PP, I had no idea about the half twins, that’s fascinating!

In high school there were a set of triplets where two were identical twins, one was not. I don’t know if there’s a name for that grouping?

Very fun! Yeah, you can't always tell. Famously, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are fraternal, not identical, twins. My own twins are B/G, so it was easy.

Enjoy your wonderful sisters!

The Olsens look so alike/ I bet they are the third type PP above explained - same egg, different sperm.

Nah, I don't believe that the Olsen twins are fraternal. No way they can look that interchangeable and be fraternal.

That sounds like all those 48+ y.o. celebrities who claim they had a baby "naturally," when we all know they used DE, IVF, and all the other help money can buy. Just not true.

OP, glad it's been a fun surprise for you!

To the PP - you can believe what you want, but it's been well-known since the late 80s that the Olsen twins are fraternal. It's not a modern invention. I'm old, so I can report this with confidence.

They can. Look up the Gardiner brothers on YouTube - amazing professional Irish dancers. They look amazingly alike but they are four years apart.

I've grown up with my twin sister and while we look A LOT alike, we have some very small differences in our noses, smiles, and my sis was always a little bit bigger than me growing up. We were always told that we were fraternal because we didn't look 100% alike but never really knew. Our mom had a test done during pregnancy that showed we were identical, but it was the 80s and our mom thought that they had tested one of us twice.

There's been times when we've fooled people but we have different styles (hers is better tbh), some different lifestyle habits (also hers is better), and people who know us well can tell us apart though we've continued to fool all our kids REPEATEDLY. We are also SUPER similar in many ways.

My sis did an ancestry DNA test for one of her kids (I had already done one for myself, she never did one but she wanted to use the data for a medical purpose) and just got the results back. It showed me as his mom We share 50% DNA. I clearly did not birth her child lol so now we know we are identical twins!!

Our kids are genetically half-siblings and when my boys and her boys would call each other "Cousin bros", they were actually onto something! lol.

These identical twins married identical twins- they also all live together. I find it pretty creepy!!!

There's no issue here, it's just a cool thing to share after 35 years of not knowing. But dang, if me and her had married identical twin brothers and had kids....our kids would be genetically full siblings; what a bizarre thing to think about. Anyways, if you are a twin and don't know if you are identical/fraternal....find out!

+1, and their younger sister looks exactly like them as well. Oh, except she actually smiles for photos.

Have you really looked at them as adults though or just thinking of the kid version of the Olsen twins? Now, I think they look quite different. Their matching body size and shape contribute to them seeming the same, but when you actually look at their faces, they look like siblings and not twins at all.
