How do you use canned mushrooms? What is the texture?

For whatever reason, I got into canned mushrooms during the pandemic. I buy the ones without added salt/sodium and have found them to be moderately useful, depending on the dish.

They're like fresh mushrooms that have already been mostly cooked. They're shrunken but still retain some moisture and have a chewy texture. If you're patient you can sauté and brown them, but the results are never as good as fresh. They hold up well in soups and stews and are an excellent meat-alternative to use when bulking up meals without adding meat.

Same. I have a case I’m using up by adding it to spaghetti sauce.

Tomato products
Beans
Pumpkin puree (cook it down a little before using it)
Probably root vegetables, but I'm basing that on summer camp from decades ago
Extremely salty soup when I have a cold or the flu

Anything else may be fine, but it won't taste the same or have the same texture, which is a dealbreaker for me with fruits and vegetables

The texture is firmer than fresh mushrooms, and the flavor seems more intense than fresh button mushrooms. I usually use them in vegetable stir fries with chicken or mushrooms; in omelettes — often with cheese ; in soups; in rice dishes.
