I love their huge lattice apple pie. |
| The place in occoquan that used to be Mom's - I think it's called the Golden Plum now. Bought a bunch of slices there last month and every flavor was awesome. |

Mom’s Apple Pie in Leesburg has the best pies in the area but I don’t know their deadline. Worth checking out. I’m not a fan of Livin’ the Pie Life.

I always make the pies the day before. I leave them sit on the kitchen table overnight (covered with an inverted dinner plate). I suppose if I had room for four pies in my fridge I would feel comfortable making them two days before. |
Nope, and it taste like garbage. If you love Crisco and soybean oil, then yes, Costco will be great. |
No, just no. My MIL bough an apple and a pumpkin pie from there last year and they were both tasteless and nasty. Sure they are big and cheap, but you'll throw most if it out when even the kids refuse to eat it. |
Just the opposite at my house. I made a pumpkin pie from scratch. Roasted my own pie pumpkins. The Costco pie was voted better. So demoralizing, and I didn't tell everyone I baked it from scratch. Only my husband knew. |

Guess I am just a better baker
One of my kids loves pumpkin pie and my husband will eat just about anything because he hates waste. Costco pumpkin pie literally grew mold on the counter before it was thrown out. The apple was better than the pumpkin, but still not even close to homemade quality. Overly sweet with a soggy crust. We hate have pretty high standard for baked goods in our house and dislike most of Costco baked goods (croissants, danish, muffins all gross) and only really eat baked goods from real bakeries. I do like their opera cake and chocolate sheet cake though. |
Tuesday. You don't need to refrigerate them, after they are cooled you can cover and tuck away somewhere. If you have the fridge space, you could bake on Monday and keep in the fridge. But honestly, a pumpkin or pecan pie is so simple to make. You just stir and dump into a pie crust and bake. |
I bake pumpkin pies the day before and keep in the fridge, and apple pies morning of. But I think a day earlier for each would be fine. Whipped cream I do between dinner and dessert so it’s fresh and perfect. |
I make my pies from scratch, and I use 1/2 Crisco and 1/2 butter in the crust, following a recipe from Cook's Illustrated. |
It was the pumpkin. Always use the canned pumpkin, it is better. |
Def a personal preference, I just can’t stand the taste and film it leaves behind in your mouth. All butter is the only way to go in my house. I’ll sacrifice some flakiness for better taste and health |
Just because it was better doesn't mean it was good. Would their first choice be a Costco pie over say a pie from a pie shop/real bakery? |
