Not really. I'm on campus a lot and rarely smell it. Sure, students on most campuses engage with various substances. But, pot (smell at least) is a lot more prominent anywhere in DC than at Brown.

Comparing it to DC is grading on a curve.

This is DC Urban Moms, so, yes, comparing to where I live, interloper.

In Virginia I always think of UVA, VCU, and Radford. JMU for drinking. But things may have changed.

If your kids want to find or is attracted to that culture, they will find it at any school. Not a judgement, just reality. There are only 4 states where pot remains fully illegal (not made legal for any purpose in any form and not decriminalized): Idaho, Wyoming, Kansas, and South Carolina.

CU-Boulder does not have a dominant drug culture. Pot is used by many, but not the dominant culture. Outdoor activities dominate CU-Boulder, not drugs or alcohol.

I appear to be wrong about the high degree of drug usage at CU-Boulder according to multiple sources.

What they fail to mention is that every school is the same way. In fact Boulder is a leader in providing students who need or are in recovery with great programs. They don't brush it under the carpet like many places, they acknowledge it and provide great resources for students that need help.

My daughter is a senior and I am commenting based on her perception.

I think the Unigo reviews for this are helpful.

They ask, "Do Students Do Drugs?" The strongest positive answer is "There's a huge drug scene." Here's the percentages for that answer from some schools listed in this thread:

38% University of Vermont
27% Reed
20% Wesleyan
9% Grinnell
7% Brown
2% UVA

This list seems specific to alcohol consumption and binge drinking only. I assumed the question was about illicit drug use. I’m not sure all the heavy drinking party schools are necessarily the same ones with high rates of other drug use.

For alcohol, it will be the usuals - Tulane, Wisconsin, Penn State, much of the Big Ten.

For weed - CU Boulder, Reed, Oregon, UC Santa Cruz

For stronger stuff that's the LACs. And it's always been like that. If you want drugs, that's where you go. Wesleyan, Bard, Oberlin, Bennington, Vassar.

Alcohol is the biggest drug by far on most campuses.

I came here to say UVA, but most people think of alcohol as a “safe” drug. It’s not safe the way I consumed it and saw it consumed there.

Now that weed is legal in many states and vaping is more common, definitely you need to ask people who’ve graduated in the past 5 years or so, for that drug type.

Mine as well, and there does not seem to be more than any other school. Not more than local high school kids in the park, honestly.

I have a Junior who says the same.

I went to Amherst and there was not a huge drug culture. I think I smoked pot twice and once it was because kids from another school were visiting it and brought it. I remember wanting to try mushrooms but couldn’t find anyone to sell it to me and gave up! We drank a lot of beer though and a fair amount of very cheap vodka from the packie store.
