Cardi B: vulgarity disguised as feminism?

I don't believe in "male demons," whatever those are, but I have never heard anyone arguing that her butt and boobs are real.

Nailed it!

And certainly don't carve your own name. Damn, girl. That's how you get caught. LOL.

This is why girls should be listening to Earl’s gotta die instead.

Also, OP, I do think there was a moment when owning your sexuality by being overtly sexual was considered a feminist act, and women were encouraged to do it. I don’t think that’s the case anymore. Nobody sees cardi B’s music or music videos as some big feminist statement. She can be a feminist without making her work about feminism.

I also don’t think she is being harmful. Many men do not like her style. They don’t like long nails, fake body parts, overt sexuality, outspokenness, etc. She isn’t completely catering to the male gaze. I actually think that more palatable women like, well, Carrie underwood might cater to the male gaze even more.

By the way I do like Carrie underwood, even though she has promoted terrible revenge strategies.

I think the question is, "Why do we glorify women who once were strippers as rappers?"

Where have the Queen Latifahs gone? The Missy Elliots, hell even the Beyonces?

Yes, I know all three still exist but they are my age which is not young and not really a hit making demographic. Let's glorify some women hit makers who actually have our values and look like an aspirational version of the young women today.

Well, maybe next time he'll think before he cheats

This thread went in a hilarious direction and I, for one, am there for it.

If you guys don’t like Cardi B but enjoy women in hip hop and rap, you should check out this cool new artist Sexyy Red. Truly empowering for women with high quality lyrics and beats.

Idk. I was done when I saw two ladies dancing in underwear and grinding on each other at some musical awards show.

I can’t say anything to my oldest because that generation seems
to think wearing underwear on stage is “empowerment.”

But male performers don’t wear underwear. They wear parkas.

Why do men get to wear clothing while the women do not? It doesn’t seem empowering to me to dance almost naked with clothed men.

I think Madonna is gross sometimes too.

Cardi B uses the n-word non-stop. She's also just about raunchy triple-X stuff.

Overall - gross. It's sad that she get's any traction in this world.

I mean she drugged, robbed, and raped people. Not exactly a bastion of morality to begin with. Being a Cardi B fan is like being an R Kelly fan.

NP. We have a common sense of decency - and some people violate it. Yes?

Absolutely not. "Morality" is personal and subjective. What is indecent to you is "taking control of her sexuality" to others.

I don't personally listen to her but I have no opinion on her "morality", certainly not based on her music/videos.

Also, you act like this is new? You must not be familiar with lots of other singers/performers (e.g., Lil' Kim, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and others). Lots of women use their sexuality for whatever purpose they deem appropriate. If that's not your cup of tea, just move on grannie and worry about yourself.

While you mock someone you assume is "a grannie," young men and women and teens are being influenced by trashy music and lyrics.
