Married into a family with health issues

Anonymous

I didn't realize my husband had ASD until we had kids, including one with ASD, by which time it was too late.

So I sympathize, OP. On the other hand, my family has physical health issues. So we're not perfect either.

They just laugh about us and say "Enjoy! That's us!" I have tried to be compassionate but am at my wit's end. Thoughts?

I don’t understand. Are you in the bathroom with them? Get some candles.

It's explosive. Very explosive and unpredictable. Where is your empathy for my situation?

NP. I'm feeling empathy, but for your relatives with this condition.

Unless their "this is how we are!" attitude extends to their not caring if they have an explosive public poop -- come on, surely they do care and take SOME steps, especially when out? -- then maybe you need to extend some more empathy to them for what must be an awful condition.

You should have known that would happen when you married him. It’s all your fault. Maybe if you lose weight and stop nagging they will stop with the Giardiasis.

There is something seriously wrong with your/their story.

That is a caused by a parasite. It is treatable , and goes away in a few weeks .😶

That is exactly right PP they do not care. They find it funny and when people complain about matter getting on them they say to loosen up and say they have a disability.

Excuse me you are wrong. Human giardiasis is a true cosmopolitan pathogen and that's the fact, jack.

If it helps at all, I come from a large extended family of seemingly healthy, ambitious, successful people but if you look more deeply and closely at each nuclear family within the whole, you will see losses, hardships (including medical) and pain. It's just not obvious to the naked eye.

Exactly

Like what? Cold twice a year and flu every ten years?

Not necessary. My parents are in early 80s and don't take any meds and don't have any chronic deceases. I am 45, no diagnoses at all, I get checked up annually with family dr, obgyn. Never take medication, occasional vitamins. My all kids are healthy. No even allergies to anything. No one have any mental health issues that we are aware of.

This is me, too. My siblings and I didn’t even need braces. My parents in their 80s and take minimal meds. Blessed with hearty, good genes. But I married into a family that although luckily doesn’t have major issues, OMG do they have every minor issue ever. Heartburn (I didn’t even know what what was, they all keep Tums everywhere), sensitive stomachs, sensitive skin, seasonal allergies, anxiety, susceptible to every cold that goes around. Totally different health profile. Time will tell how our kids turn out.

Eew- it’s a contagious parasite that is treatable. They need to clean up after themselves and get treated.
