Agree! I meant we had been to Costa Rica…but if we were to stay in the Americas this time, yes, more inclined to do something like Mexico City, as suggested above. |
Then you don’t have enough time for anything your suggesting, except perhaps to take a quick look at the Grand Canyon and fly home. |

That is silly. A week is a nice enough amount of time for one city. We have had lovely Paris and London trips with direct flights for less than a week when the opportunity arose. But yes, it is a thumb on the scale for direct flights from DC. |
Also I did not suggest the Grand Canyon. You may be on the wrong thread. |

For anniversary trip in 2019, I loved Budapest. Great food, great ruins, funky town, interesting history, beautiful architecture (and yes, we were giving money to the Orban government, but....it was still great.)
We went to Prague as well and I didn't love it as much, but there are other places you could combine Budapest with. We took a train between the cities and stopped at Bled Castle (I think) in Slovenia, which was a highlight--up on a cliff on crumbling walls overlooking the Danube. Amsterdam is also fabulous for a few days, and you can do cool biking day trips and visit the countryside in the Netherlands. Don't stay too near the train station and you'll be fine. Whatever you do, I hope it's great! |
| Yes to Mexico City. Maybe add a side trip to San Miguel de Allende. But there’s plenty to do in Mexico City for a week. Stay in Condesa or Roma. |
| Buenos Aires |
| If you stay in this hemisphere you'll avoid jetlag. What about St Martin? |
| I second both the Mexico City and Buenos Aires suggestions! |
| Oaxaca. Plus Mexico City maybe, l think you have to fly there first anyways |
| For my 50th next year we're doing Reims (Champagne Region) and Beaune (Burgundy Region). Good food and great wine. |
