Curly / wavy haired people: how do you sleep at night?

Anonymous
Forget about the pillowcase, you NEED the silk bonnet! It's a life changer. Not only do my curls look good in the morning but my hair doesn't break in the night and it's growing for the first time.
Yes you will be sleeping with what looks like a chef's hat and your husband will think you look ridiculous. It's worth it!

Satin bonnet and pillowcase

Same. I shower at night, sleep in a silk cap, and then in the morning I re-wet (as little as I can get away with) and style as curly. But those curls are no good the next day.

+1 on the bonnet but a scarf works. Or, if wet, a cotton tee.

Not OP but how do you wash your pillowcase? I have allergies and am supposed to wash and dry my linens on hot. The silk pillowcases I have seen say you have to wash them in cold and line dry.

Washable satin works just as well.
But I do have one silk pillowcase and I wash and dry it with everything else, probably shortens the lifespan but whatever.

Always. Well, I don't always wash it, but I do fully wet and condition my hair if I don't wash it. My hair is somewhat thin and flattens out quite a bit when I sleep. I've had pretty short hair at points, too, and morning showers are the only way.

Pile hair on top of head, sleep in silk bonnet, spritz in the AM with leave-in curl cream or curl conditioner diluted with water, shake out or scrunch, done.

My curly hair is above my shoulders. At night I use a silk scrunchie and pile as much on top of my head as possible. Then I pull a buff over it. In the morning, I give it about 15 minutes to “fall” before touching it. If it needs a spritz and touch up with mousse I do that. I can get about 3 days without washing.

I do use silk pillows. I pick it all up like loose noodles and put it up above my pillow. No bun unless i am trying to straighten it.

I twist it in a big claw clip at night. I don't use any product other than shampoo and conditioner.

Not me - but my daughter - this.

I use a silk pillowcase, but I don't think it's anywhere near as helpful as the sleep bonnet. And even with the bonnet I wouldn't dare go out with my morning hair. If I'm going out, I have to do a re-wet with leave-in conditioner, curl cream and/or gel. If I'm just home for the day, I can get away with spritzing my hair with a mix of water and leave-in conditioner (or curl cream).

Bonnets prevent tangles but flatten my hair to my head in a way that is really unhelpful for low density hair.

I have wavy hair but never wear it wavy two days in a row without washing. It just doesn’t look good no matter what I do. The only time I skip a day is if I’ve blown my hair out straight. But every night I sleep with my hair in a high, loose messy bun or pony tail regardless of whether it’s straight or wavy.

Really? Mine is only tight around my hairline and then it basically balloons out. My hair is not crushed or flat at all.
