Front load vs Top load washer?

We just got a non-agitator LG top loader. Love it. Cavernous, and SO, at 5'2" can reach into it.

Bought from scratch/dent section a misordered washing machine, NIB, didn’t realize it was a top loader without an agitator until at the cabin. Too much hassle to take back and Samsung is a good name brand so just kept. Clothes must be loaded a certain way, which is fine, and it’s very quiet but overall I don’t think it cleans as well as it should especially for new. Wouldn’t recommend.

Top load all the way. No agitator. Speed Queen.

I've had both. Here are the pros/cons:

- Front loader has a tendency to mold, mildew. Once its there, near impossible to get rid of. Top loaders dont have this issue.
- Front loader is easier to reach in for a short person
- Top loader can take a much larger load all at once. Front loader has a smaller drum space.

Last time we bought, we went with the GE Top loader and are very happy.

Lol at you thinking this is a reliable way to research a major purchase.

We just bought a GE top loader. I feel like they don't look as sleek/modern as front loaders, but I really like the functionality of top loaders, specifically
- capacity to handle big loads/ large items like blankets
- soaking ability

We have a Maytag top loader. It’s not fancy and does its job. I stay away from big appliances with all the bells and whistles because more parts just mean more hassle if something breaks. Ie, I don’t need Wi-Fi to start the washer.

I've gone back and forth. Top loaders are more convenient but the LG Front loaders do a better better job of cleaning so my last two have been those. I'd like to get the LG Sidekick too.

OP, if you go with top load, make sure the height is good.
I am 5 ft, DH got a top load over the summer, I can't reach to get the clothes out when washing a small load.
I have to dove in, the dame thing is deep! I have a stick to fish out my under wear now!
Terrible purchase.

Front loaders handle big loads just fine.

Most of these responses are not from people who have actually considered both options.

We bought a house where the a front loader 10 years ago after living in a rental apartment with a top loader for many years. Front loader, which sells for 3x what out old top loader did, was constant problems. Even with regularly cleaning and wiping out the door seal, it developed mildew. The filter was hard to clean and always full. The spin cycle started working erratically after just a couple years. Eventually it didn't drain properly. Replaced it with the same model cheap top loader as we had in the rental 5 years ago. It's perfect -- easy to clean, can wash pillows and blankets in it no problem, never breaks.

THis is us - never again

yep. I am 5'1" . No way.

I have used both, prefer top loader:

Front loaders make my clothes pill. The clothes tumble and rub on each other for 1hr plus. This is the case even if I wash just two items at one time.

Because of how little water they use, have to wash very small loads at a time on front loaders.

Cycles take forever. Time adds up and is inconvenient when you are a busy working mom.

She didn't say she had never used a front loader before.
Yes, you can stick a lot of clothes/blankets whatever in a top loader, they will fit and you will be able to close the washer door. But the washer is not a storage shed, the point is to get large loads clean and fully rinsed, and front loaders do not do that.
