How much do essays matter?

I think it depends. I think it helped my kid get into a top public because they were unhooked and below the median. I think the essay showed grit and explained how they overcame some obstacles that was evident in an upward grade trend. Kid doing great so they were right.

Same. I think they can pull a kid in if they're on the border. They could keep a kid out if they were horribly written or revealed no thought or planning at all.

I think the PIQ got my DD into 5/6 of the UCs she applied to was only waitlisted at UCI and got a Regents for UCSD.
