Op, not sure how exactly your child’s therapist is qualified to recommend schools - my oldest DD also in therapy for ADHD and anxiety and our therapist is not weighing in on high school selection. That is not their expertise. |
The mod schedule can be really hard for ADHD kids prone to getting overwhelmed falling behind -- there isnt the timeline to make up if you tank a test or fall behind. |
Madeira is not a "pressure cooker" environment, mainly because the kids are nice. It's a lovely and supportive community. But it is intense academically, much more so than we expected when we first learned about the mod structure. Our daughter is very happy at the school despite the mod schedule, which really isn't ideal for learning. Everything moves super quickly and the students don't necessarily have the same classes in consecutive mods - so you could have math in mods 1, 4, and 7 - which isn't optimal for continuity. |
DP, but that’s just going to depend on the person. The therapist who does my kid’s dyslexia and ADHD assessment does have expertise in area schools. In fact, she’s worked with multiple schools to set up or improve their academic centers, and is extremely qualified to recommend options for us. Her insight was both valuable and proved very accurate. |
