Birthday Party Ideas - 15yo DD

Fancy movie theater with food and comfy chairs.

Butler's Orchard in MD has bonfires that cost about $400. The provide the bonfire and you bring everything else. Definitely a different experience for city/inner burb kids, bet there's someplace in VA that would provide this.

Letting them go to a restaurant together by themselves was a hit at the age.

Walking around shopping in georgetown + dinner + movie.

Halloween fests? Kings dominion with just a couple of friends, or Hershey - overnight trip.

Which roller rink did you use? Dd wanted to do a roller rink party for her 16th so we went and checked out the one in Laurel. That was a big NOPE from her. She said it was too sketchy and dirty.

In their group, it’s more common to just do a restaurant meal or party at home. Another popular thing is getting hotel rooms or going to someone’s beach house.

No teenager should have a hotel room party. I think parents that consent to this are very disturbing.

I was in the room next door and had no reason to worry about their behavior based on past sleepovers, etc.

Markoff’s haunted trail? Was just there and it’s scary but not super scary. I think 15 yr olds would love it.

Ice skating followed by fancy hot chocolate?

Second the karaoke suggestion. There’s one at the wharf my daughter has been to. Fun party.

We had a similar issue about not being able to host and my 15 yo daughter wanted a sleepover so I got an Airbnb in Shenandoah area, took them to a pumpkin patch then to Target for shopping (candy and such) they baked a birthday cake and watched a movie while I chilled in the other room and told them not to bother me unless there was an emergency It was definitely less than $800 and they had a blast. Not doing it at home made it a bit more special even if it was just an Airbnb.

Not op, but I've wondered about doing something like that. It sounds nice

So many Airbnb listings are "no parties." I assume the hosts want to prevent loud drunken events with lots of cars and property damage, and that a parental chaperoned movie focused sleepover with a handful of teens is okay, but did you end up clearing it with the host ahead of time?

DD entire friend group (6 girls) all just wanted to dress up and do dinners out. So we did it for her birthday and each of the other girls did it for theirs. They came back to the houser after to open gifts, hang out and have cake. They had a great time. Her 16th is this weekend and she is going to brunch with her same crew on Sunday. Does not want a big "sweet 16". Most of the girls are ding similar restaurant celebrations.

No. Definitely too old for a birthday party at 15.

What kind of narcissistic kids are you all raising that you still throw big birthday parties with 10 kids while they are in high school (Spending $800?!) ? Something small with a best friend or 2, but a party? You people are crazy.

I don't think the "no parties" rule is about 8 teenagers eating brownies and watching movies. It's about groups of 20-something kids renting it out to get plastered. Also, the mother was there.

I love this idea PP! I'm filing it away. We live in a small house, so big sleepovers aren't possible, but doing a night away like this sounds like a really fun way make it happen here or there.
