My DD did this on and off probably k-2. She is 13, no anxiety issues and perfectly fine
Get a chewy necklace to protect shirts.
My kid did this last year for a bit (1st grade). Mostly when he was feeling fidgety. He grew out of it, but still fidgets, especially at meal times.
This is what we had for our son in K/1 and it helped. He has adhd and anxiety. When he started concerta, he grew out of chewing on his shirts and needing a chewy. Some outgrow it without meds, this is just what happened for our son. |
I did this and then grew out of it (but bit my nails instead). In hindsight I think it was anxiety / OCD, but I didn't get treatment at that age. Sought treatment as an adult with different symptoms.
I did this too quite a bit too and my winter coat collars especially was nasty as unlike d shirt collars which could be washed I knew I was doing it but I just could t help it. It was al ways in my mouth when I was standing line or idle. I was fidgety. Was only diagnosed with adhd when I became an adult but back then I was girl who chewed everything. I still do to this day chewing hoodie strings or a much harder pen that doesn’t get squished too much when chewed and learnt the art of being more discreet.
