Maybe all religions should be represented.
Frankly I’d love people who volunteered to work on Christmas Eve. Gov is required to be open but we all have annual leave and want to be with our families. |
| I think this is written by AI. If not then OP please explain what it means to be an officially recognized minority in your office. Do you get a plaque? Hiring preference? As a woman in your office, officially recognized, what privileges would I get? What about unofficial minorities? Are you telling me that if someone made an antisemitic comment that a Jewish coworker would not be able to file a complaint because they're not in the official underrepresented minority category? I highly doubt that. |
God, this x a million. I am beyond sick to death of this sorting and categorizing people into nice, neat little boxes. Enough, already. |
+100. So many “white Americans” that are Middle Eastern. My exes family is 100% Middle Eastern they would never write anything but White because they’ve been here for generations. He is half. Do you think he would write half Middle Eastern on his check mark at work? absolutely not. I am 11% Native American according to my DNA test but I don’t write Native American down. This is getting to the point of ridiculousness. |
| Census is thinking about this. I haven’t been following most recently, but they are/were considering adding a Middle Eastern Northern African category. |

You people are so tedious.
What is the endgame here? Splice and splice endlessly until literally *everyone* is nothing but a victim? We’re all condemned in our own unique way to being “underrepresented” pity cases? How about you all just STFU and let people be people, do their jobs, work under basic concepts of respect and professionalism, then go home. I cannot STAND this obsessive identity politics BS. It is DESTROYING our society. — mixed race, latinx, white, black, indigenous Chicano, cis male but gay once in college, overweight, from a poor/working class background from the rural SW, conservative/libertarian, missing a toe How many points do I get? |
Oh, we're waaaaaay past that. Honestly, this country needs to come to its senses, fast. |
| My suggestion is that you get back to work and stop with this identity whining. |
Well you get a million internet points for this post. Well said. |

I'm from a Middle Eastern culture that's neither Arab nor Jewish (it's a pretty diverse region!) and I think the more you know about it, the less it makes sense to try to look at everything through the lens of race. The world is a lot more complicated than that. You're going to have a huge headache deciding who's "in."
My workplace doesn't particularly treat women as underrepresented though. |
This. Categorizing people by ethnicity for employment decisions was done by Nazi Germany. Creepy. |
| Wow, I think you would be moving towards a huge lawsuit for giving preference to anyone but non-hispanic white people. Alexandria lost a lawsuit recently where they gave benefits to "BIPOC" people which was defined as anyone in the world but non-hispanic white people. Also, it's not good for business to jump into discussions about cultural/religious groups that are in conflict and then seeming to pick sides. |
Middle Eastern people are in fact white in all regards except in progressive politics or Gen Z online discussions about race. There was a news article awhile back about a rich Jordanian author who claimed she was a WOC in the US until she tried to shame a black woman on the metro. |
Turkey? Iran? Some industries historically have more women than men (teaching, nursing) and in that case there isn't as much emphasis on gender. But really what is looked at is the percent of underrepresented groups in different types of roles across the organization. I once worked at a company that was 76%women but when were only in like 20% of director level roles and above at the company. This would suggest is that the company is hiring women at lower levels and they are then not getting promoted into higher level roles, that women are leaving before being promoted into higher level roles, that the company is not hiring women into higher level roles, or all of the above. Is that concerning? I'm not the judge but investors want to see this information so someone thinks it's material. |
| I think OP must be a troll. This is beyond stupid |
