2 year old has a cold- still get flu shot?

I called my pediatrician to ask them whether I should reschedule my kid’s 15-mo appt since he was sick, and they told me to bring him in, and gave him his flu shot among other immunizations. No issues.

I’ve read that you’re supposed to recover from illness before getting a vaccine because it may make you feel sicker. But I’m 36 weeks pregnant and would really like to have her vaccinated before I give birth. If you’ve gotten your toddler a flu shot while mildly ill with a cold, how did they react?

I will have her mask at the office, and I’m sure it’s not Covid because she recovered from that a couple weeks ago.

I think this is incorrect. I believe that the potential issue is that your immune response may not be as great to the shot because it is already fighting another infection.
But given that you are about to have a baby, I would proceed.

Thanks everyone. The pediatrician said she could get the shot as long as she didn’t have a fever. By the time we got it, she only had a slightly runny nose. It was yesterday morning and she’s been perfectly fine.

My 2 and 3 year olds just moved into a group childcare setting for the first time and at least one of them has had a runny nose/cough literally every single day since August. I am certainly not stopping that from getting them a flu shot.

Same— if a minor cold rules you out for a vaccine, then I’m not sure when we’re supposed to get one. I’m not trying to be flippant; my kids are 3 and 5 and have just been ill since like week 3 of school.

Agree- both my toddlers and I have had the flu vaccine with minor colds. We haven’t had issues with this. I don’t get sick from the flu vaccine and my kids don’t run fevers from vaccines. I understand some people get sick from it, but many people are just fine.
