That’s not true. It’s weighted heavily towards academic growth. |
Yes, but some are having far more than others and Einstein is having less than the other favorite schools. I’ll stick with Einstein. |
Only a select few take gs seriously. |
| I honestly don't understand why DCUM seems to love to crap on Einstein so much. I have no idea why its GS rating increased, but I know my high achieving white kid is very happy there as are his peers, as far as I can tell. |
It’s because they need to reassure themselves that it was worthwhile to pay 200k more for the same house in the WJ part of Kensington than they would have in the Einstein part of Kensington. |
It’s nuts- if we were trying to buy today we’d probably be priced out. |
Mine, too. From what they've said, there's a pretty sizable group of kids with high academic goals, but the atmosphere seems to be more supportive than competitive. They also love the overall creative and artsy vibe at Einstein. I've been impressed so far with their IB teachers, too. My kid looks forward to going to class, and comes home excited about what they've learned. I guess time will tell how well they're prepared for the IB exams, but most of their classes have already started working on test-taking strategies and brainstorming for their IAs. |
This is good to hear! |
| It doesn't surprise me. |
which is consistently poor and since wealthy schools don't have diversity they're off the hook i.e. diversity is punished |
| What confuses me about GS is that they have an "equity" score that compares performance of "underserved" students to the state average, but I haven't been able to find a definition of "underserved". A Black child from a high-income family most certainly faces discrimination in education and is therefore underserved, but I feel like comparing them to a low-income Latino child that doesn't speak English, or a child with profound disabilities, is maybe not a useful comparison? |

We are also Einstein. I have 2 kids who have graduated from there, and another who is 10th grade now. No complaints.
We are in Kensington and yes all new houses are over 1mil. We could not afford to move here today. |
I wonder if MCPS is now paying for AP tests for everyone (except IB students) to try and help their GS ratings by increasing participation in the exams. |
I think they are paying for it as they have lots of extra money and instead of doing helpful things like the tutoring, increase sub, bus driver, custodian, and paraprofessional and other lowered paid jobs, this is less costly and then they can easily claim it against equity OR they were already paying a big chunk for the lower income kids so overall fully paying isn't that much of a difference budget wise. |
| I liked it before it was cool |
