Remind App

I know they think that using it will lead to more engagement than S’more, but any system that asks me to click a link after opening a message is not a winner in my book. Yes, I understand it is easier for them to update from their end, but I am lazy and want to be able to skim an email for content.

Agree. Body of email.

It was never intended to be a parent to parent communication app. It is a school to parent - parent to school app.

MCPS has its issues but paying for an app for you to contact other parents isn't one of them.

But how can I set up Larla's birthday party?

I don't know. Through teacher for a list?

We have parentvue, canvas, teachers have two email addresses but you never know if you are supposed to use org or net, we get a smite newsletter, there’s a listserv, we get texts and I think some administrators and guidance use twitter. We don’t yet have carrier pigeon or the very expensive bus tracking app I thought they said we were getting.

Surely there is a way to streamline all of this.

Lucky. Our principal is forcing it down our throats. We HAVE to send at LEAST one weekly message. I had a parent angrily write back (even though she signed up for it but regardless). I don't need this extra BS on my plate in order to maintain some MCPS quota so they can justify buying yet something else. If a teacher WANTS to use it, they should. Like the above poster said, no one should be forced to do so.

Once a week is crazy. Is this for elementary school?

Middle school. The ones I've *had* to send out have been a waste of everyone's time because I simply don't have any *actual* reminders to send out.

I signed up for it but only receive the principals weekly message for 1 of our 2 schools. Not sure if I am missing something or not?

What is this app and how is it different from Canvas and Synergy?

I don't want other parents communicating with me on remind
-a parent.

It sends text messages and emails, and it includes translations into multiple languages. It doesn't have course or grade data like Canvas and Synergy. And you don't need the app. I never installed the app but I receive the texts and emails from the school.

It is not required to use by MCPS. It is recommended as another quick communication tool by staff.

No I shouldn't be required to use some other app when email would suffice.

It IS required by staff members to use it though.

Some staff at some schools, as mentioned here, are required to use it. Those are individual school decisions. MCPS says it is a tool (one of many) that staff can use to communicate with families. All staff are required to be trained to use in by December.

It could be good potentially but we need to streamline the methods of communication. Keep Remind and let people get used to it for several years. Cut one of the emails and eliminate the contact options through Synergy and Canvas. One email and Remind.

Agreed. What I don't like re: Remind is that MCPS gave Remind access to our personal phone numbers and I am getting texts from parents on my phone. MCPS does not pay for my phone and should not have provided my number to Remind. Also, I have opted out of having my phone number attached to Remind communications, but every time MCPS refreshes data with Remind, my phone number is uploaded into Remind again.

That was courtesy of MCPS - they provided your personal contact information to Remind.
