Aidan seemed to have a number of gay parents and seemed responsive.

Of all the schools I can think of, Edmund Burke would be the most supportive/inclusive/welcoming school. It's mentioned a lot on this board.

There are two LGBT couples in my son's class at Aidan. They are both v. happy there.

In this general area, in this time, it might be more efficient to ask what schools are NOT supportive of children who have LGBT parents....

Other than those far right, religious based schools, I can't imagine that a majority of schools are not welcoming of diversity & the LGBT community...I would be very curious to know if others have experienced otherwise.

My daughter is in a school referred to as "progressive." By and large, I think the school community is open and welcoming, but the fact is there are few LGBT families. Maybe 'cause we're in a 'burb. Hoping more join...

Not a lot of welcoming people at The Woods Academy...

Why do you say that?

I'm a non-GLBT parent. I noticed on my child's graduating from GEDS and enrolling in Catholic independent schools (two in succession, neither of them Woods) that the directories for the new schools did not list any families who appeared to be GLBT, and very few single parents either. It was overwhelmingly married heterosexual couples. This was a definite change from GEDS. Anyway, I speculated, without knowing if it was true or not, that GLBT families didn't choose these schools (or didn't choose to be listed as a family in the directory) because of the Catholic affiliation. In general I have found that the Catholic independent schools my child attended have been less diverse than GEDS in virtually any way one would measure diversity.

My partner and I are hosting an open house for LGBT families interested in Green Acres, which is where our son now attends and where we hope to send our preschoolers when the time comes.
Green Acres is a fabulous progressive school. We have been extremely pleased - even beyond our expectations.

If you are interested in attending the open house specifically for LGBT parents where you can talk with representatives from the school, as well as other parents, please contact Nina Chibbler at Ninac@greenacres.org

Mary Ann
