How do you tell a DC native from a transplant?

If you listen to white WW2 vets born and raised in DC, they had very Southern accents. This really surprised me when I recorded their oral histories years ago.

We never say that DC is full of transplants, and we get used to having friends move away.

If someone doesn't say the federal agency where they work, chances are it's the CIA.

Spot on!

Yep, I can spot all of the non-natives on this thread. Natives do not use the phrase DMV to refer to this area.

I’m ashamed to admit that this word has creeped into my vocabulary. - native

And if someone says Langley when referring to the CIA. Not from DC and definitely not employed there. Langley is a high school. That is all.

I'd replace gogo with HFStival, but both were popular in different parts of the city

Only when they identify themselves as DC natives.

Otherwise, who on earth would know?!?

As a DC native, I think we are less ambitious than people who move here for their career.

As a few other real natives have already mentioned, DMV = Dept. of Motor Vehicles. I'd like to know which moron is responsible for starting this trend, I can assure you they weren't born and raised here.

Claim that Arlington and Alexanddia are DC.

That drives the transplants from Ass, Fcvk, Ohio, absolutely bonkers. Their entire identity is wrapped up in zip codes.

You don’t have to, they’ll tell you.
