Churchill Questions

We are also planning to move to the Churchill school district. My son will be a Sophomore when he starts - as parents we are very concerned about moving to a new school district this late in high school. He is a bright kid, not very social and plays an individual sport. Which school would the parents on this group recommend ?

Churchill for certain. Most people only dream of being able to send their child there.

They play a sport and I am so grateful they made the team because had they not, I don't know what the transition would have looked like. Being part of a fall team certainly made it much easier. Even still, they don't yet have "friends" they're socializing with on the weekends (online is different) but they are doing clubs (which meet during lunch, so that's great socially-speaking) and they seem very happy. To be fair my kid isn't a big socializer, so we're not looking to fill a calendar Friday - Sunday each week.

Academics are very good, in my view.

My son started at Churchill this year (9th grade) after attending private school prior. He is enjoying it and the transition really hasn't been that hard. He doesn't have many "good" friends either but I suspect with club meetings ramping-up, that will change. It just takes time. But, overall, we've been VERY happy.

Churchill is excellent for all students and all learning types.

You are extremely lucky to have been able to afford to move into the Churchill district. He will not be disappointed with this excellent school. Arguably the best public HS in Maryland. And when I say faster, I include the fact that they work well with all student types.

I have two kids there and do recommend it. I don’t think the transition will be super easy (at Churchill or and public school), but there are so many groups and ways to make friends.

That’s a stretch. It’s not the best in the state of Maryland. Ask me how I know.
