I am thinking the same thing. Just...a former colleague making you responsible for their entire end of life care? Yikes.

For 10k go to the Kensington.

Terrible experience at the Kensington. Quality of Sunrise depends entirely on which community you’re considering.

Can you expand? We are considering the Kensington

the residences at thomas circle have been taking good care of my mom, and i don't think they have demanded anyone have an attendant. they don't take medicaid; my plan is to wait and see and move her if she spends the bulk of her money down.

+1 for my dad with dementia

I have lived through this exact same thing. My FIL was at Sunrise and they told me he needed a full-time aid during the day I think it was, which would have been financially ruinous. (He would leave the facility) We ended up moving my FIL to BROOKDALE POTOMAC which was cheaper and better. No full-time assistant and he loved it there and got the best care he has ever received in his life! It is SO PROFESSIONALLY RUN!!!!!!

A friend’s mom was at Arden Court. They were extremely happy with the care that she received there.

Eldertree is an Arlington based geriatric care management firm - they were tremendously helpful to me when we were looking for a place for my aunt. We ended up selecting Silverado of Alexandria- a dedicated memory care facility. I doubt they would require the one-one care, and the facility was much nicer than Sunrise. They were about 10k in 2020, not sure if they would be affordable for you now, but do check them out.
