OP. That would be my luck. Hope your friend wound up okay. Thanks everyone for the responses. It doesn’t sound as bad as some other vaccines and I will look into the oral option which I didn’t know about.


I had the typhoid vaccine and still got typhoid - this was about 17 years ago. It was terrible but I guess it was better than it would have been if I weren’t vaccinated.

I actually just returned from a travel clinic and chose this. I was told the oral pills are effective for five years and the shot just two.


I did the pills for this reason. My DD is not an expert pill swallower and chose the vaccine. She’s sensitive to vaccines but only complained about soreness for a short time after. Both her and the pharmacist agreed that it is easier than Covid shot but worse than flu shot.

I took typhoid pills and within an hour had horrible stomach pain. I think my husband had stomach discomfort too. Not that I wouldn’t do it again, but FYI.
