What do you think is my boss’ motive?

I’ve been new to an org and in a senior role.

Once the transition was over I found out I inherited a group with tons of infighting and gossips. They all had to go. It’s the only way to move forward and grow better.

Usually this: they quit or get on PIPs and quit.
Or you play nice with the new c level.

My best guess. He was genuinely excited at first. Something happened to piss him off. Possibly personal but more likely in his dealings with upper management. The job wasn't what he expected and he lashed out. Now it's even worse because he is losing people and can't cope.

OP here and you just might be right. I think the shift occurred around the time he made a BIG change that everyone vehemently disagreed with. He was also warned he’d probably lose people to this change, and he called our bluff and lost. He’s been an absolute nightmare since then, but also passive aggressive? Saying things like, “Let them leave! I don’t care.” But obviously you do care? Because now you’re making it harder for people to leave?

Did he make everyone return to the office more than 2 days a week?

Bingo!

Gravy days of barely doing any ti g are over.

OP here. It’s not that. We’ve always been in person. I don’t want or need to get into the details, they are too easily identified, but we were successfully carrying our department single handedly for nearly a year, and now we are met with sweeping changes that make our jobs exponentially harder. It’s funny how almost everyone will be gone soon. We are all giving up a lot (many of us, losing benefits and pay) to get out of that place. No, actually, we are quitting the boss, not the job.

I know DCUM loves to create their own salacious narratives, but I assure you this is a case of hard workers and a clueless boss taking us for granted. I wish him and this thread the best.
