Outdoor fire pit or fireplace?

Neighbor has an odd fireplace setup which has a modest grill piece just in front of the chimney. They can just have logs burning only under the chimney or can adjust the fire so they also can cook on the grill bit. Probably cost more to build.

I've wanted to put in an outdoor fire pit. But our back yard is wooded and I'm worried about fire risk. How do you mitigate that?

The Breeo/Solo burn so hot there is virtually no smoke once they get going.

We have a Breeo and it does get very very hot. We are thinking about building a low paver wall thing around it but haven’t done so yet.
