I think you're misreading. Being a top 20 debate kid is a very strong extracurricular, but for sure things drop quickly after that. Honestly after top 8 at TOC/Nationals (either), things get a little thin. There are just so many debate kids. So yeah, if you're one of the top 20 debate kids in America, it's a standout EC for the top 30 college.s |
| also, ime, Yale seems to like the debate kids. |
Best post ever of DCUM history. Should be pinned. |

Towson was the national debate champ in 2014. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxtVorLYnds |
Why do high schools have debate teams? What is the point? Didn’t realize this went beyond middle school. |
Shouldn't you be asking the reverse question? Which colleges do debate kids like? I assume your kid likes debate, as wasn't torturing himself to create a future he doesn't want to live in. |
My failed attempt at sounding like I participated in HS debate...

Different poster but my kid really likes the speech and debate community and would be happy to here where speech and debate kids have landed and been happy (or vice versa not happy) |

Colleges don't care about debate unless they happen to have a strong debate program or trying to start one and need new recruits. Just like they don't care about violin unless they have a nice orchestra and their violinist is about to graduate. |
this is the list we found. MI has some merit money for debate. |
Wake isn't T30 |
| Where can I find the ranking for high school debate teams, and specific kids? Interesting in the north east region. thx |
