Why do people romanticize diner food?

And the atmosphere is part of it. The 60 year old waitresses who are the right combination of gruff and charming.

Omfg, I want to go to a real diner NOW!! There's no real diner here.

That does look promising...

The bacon is always sort of chewy and undercooked. The forks feel old. We are on the road a ton for the kids’ travel sports, so we visit dozens of dinners annually, and they’re all pretty crummy.

You clearly haven't spent any time in NJ diners.

There used to be a diner near my work that was cozy feeling and the food actually tasted really good. I would go there every Friday morning with my co workers. Nothing else can compare and I’ve been disappointed by every other diner I’ve been to.

I miss the Tastee Diner in Silver Spring.

You need to go to a diner in New Jersey.

I used to love diner food, especially for breakfast out - but after changing my regular eating habits a lot the last year, I can’t stomach all the saturated fat in most diner dishes. I wish there was a place near me that could make a really good veggie and herb omelette but I live in a fine dining desert - so going out to breakfast is no longer a thing for me after being my favorite thing for decades.

Stop going! I have kids in 3 different travel sports and have not been to a diner once in four years.

There was one out in Herndon that was good. Not sure if it’s still there.

I have many fond memories of Greek-owned Midwestern diners with my grandmother, or with college friends. Haven’t found a great diner in DC, though Silver Diner is an interesting, healthier spin.

They can be fun places to sit and talk.

Those cases with the multi-layer cakes that looked so good. And all tasted like sawdust the worst possible cakes. But they had pretty much everything under the sun on the menu. Meatloaf, lo-cal diet plate (tomato with cottage cheese), crepes, eggs, pancakes, club sandwich, patty melt, etc. All was just ok, never amazing, the cakes were terrible.

The Amphora was fantastic. Miss that place.

For the same reasons they romanticize poverty. Nonsense
