If you have several chronic health issues but still make travel happen

Agree with this poster. I also work out, particularly upper body, several months in advance. Eat well. Bring a sense of humor when you travel.

I used to cruise. But, my health issues are t as simple as an allergy. Now I don’t travel.

I think OP as much more than an allergy. Sorry OP it is tough. I wouldn't be able to. Its too much prep just for my daughter with allergies - can't imagine with additional issues. My mom had a different mindset but I have anxiety. That's my chronic issue I guess.

Those aren’t chronic issues that one would stop traveling for.

My friend’s mother-in-law has every single one of those issues as well as limited mobility (in her 70s), but she is still able to drive. She loves visiting casinos with nice hotels. She rents a scooter when she gets there, and has the best time. She also has incontinence issues and wears a diaper to handle that.

Las Vegas would be a good option. She lives in the south and visits the casinos in Biloxi, Cherokee etc.

She visits the beach but that’s trickier for her, and she only goes there with family who can push her in one of those rented beach wheelchairs. But the distance from the parking lot to the beachfront is a challenge, especially when she needs a restroom break, and the diapers only help so much with that. So she’s not the biggest fan of beach vacations.

Really? I have severe IBS and I can’t travel. Except to my parents and in-laws. Even when there and there are cousins it’s embarrassing. I work from home. How are those not chronic issues that would make even domestic travel very complicated. Forget international travel.

Cruise lol? Norovirus and IBS are not a good match!!! 🙄

We go on luxury vacations that provide us a private tour, dedicated guide, luxury van etc.

We don't do things at a breakneck speed. We are exploring at a leisurely pace. We stay at 4 star and 5 star hotels. We book deep tissue massages at most stops. And we are careful about eating very healthy food for at least 2 meals. We do not eat junk or drink alcohol. Eat at high end places. Hydrate well. Take breaks, snack healthy, make sure that we are taking probiotics, eat organic etc. We pay for private tours etc and let people cater to us.

I have a heart condition and problem with stamina. We went to Peru a couple summers ago and I did all the climbing at various ruins and spots. But, I did not do the Inca Trek to Machu Picchu. We took a luxury train and stayed overnight at a place that was at the entrance of Machu Picchu.

I get first class seats on long haul flights, I ask for a quiet room when I check in to a hotel, I'm very careful about managing jet lag appropriately, I only take trips I really want to take, I look up things like restaurant menus in advance and plan what I am going to order and how to ask for what I need.

Cruises are awful. Terrible medical staff, terrible food, terrible sleeping arrangements. I would rather stay home.

We do travel a ton btw. Just never on tacky cruises.

We had great medical staff. Dad who was in his 80's had a health incident. He was taken to the medical office. The M.D. was Filipino. He had me bring all of Dad's pills. The M.D. was able to identify them by looking at them. The RN's on board were beautiful ladies from the UK. The entire ship's staff thought highly of the medical staff.

Cruises make a lot of sense for those with health issues as they are easy.

What on earth does beauty or gender have to do with anything?

+1 I don’t know if you meant to sound really creepy but that was a very weird thing to say

Sleep--I take 400 mg magnesium glycinate at 8:00 pm and also 200 mg L theanine

Eat--I bring my own foods because of the IBD. I eat lighter and fresh foods from the grocery store at destination.

I do best staying at one place and not traveling around. My most recent trip was not ideal in that we moved around and stayed at 4 different places due to wedding festivities. It really reinforced my need to stay at one place and travel from there.

Does the magnesium counteract the Imodium?
