We did IVF PGD for most of our 9 IVF cycles (which thankfully resulted in 3 children) because my DH is a carrier for a genetic chromosome issue which gives us a 50% chance of having a Trisomy 13 or 14 baby. Please think long and hard about how important the sex is to you before you embark on PGD. As many have already said - and I agree - PGD is hard on the embryos (removing the cell for the biopsy). My first child is a result of IVF PGD and I am obviously thankful for the process. However the more IVF PGD cycles we started to do when trying to conceive #2 - we started to wonder if PGD was too hard on our embryos. We kept putting back beautiful 5 day blast PGD normal embryos and kept miscarrying or not having success. Finally on our last cycle we put back 3 embryos without PGD and thankfully it resulted in our healthy twins. Go figure.

PGD is an added expense (not sure how much "sex selection" would cost - it usually varies based on what they're testing for - for us it was an additional $3,200 PER CYCLE). I honestly believe after going through it so many times that PGD is an added risk - it does a lot a good and can help a lot of people - but it's naive to think it doesn't some how affect the embryo's ability to thrive.

Good luck in your decision.
