OP- congratulations on your pregnancy! just out of curiosity, how old are you? I had very similar nuchal test results at 36 and we debated a lot whether to have amnio (we would have terminated if there was an abnormality). Eventually, we decided against it b/c we figured the risk of miscarriage was probably greater than the risk of an abnormality based on the nuchal results. We ended up having a beautiful, healthy baby girl. I am hoping to get pregant later this year (will be 37) and we will face the same difficult decision (amnio or not). Good luck with whatever you decide! |
I am 40 and appointment is coming up so I will report back after I get results--hopefully I will have a happy answer!! |
I'm 37 with my first pregnancy. I had similar results and decided against an amnio. Our doctor said the same thing as earlier posters -- that we had a 10x+ greater chance of losing the pregnancy as a result of the amnio than having a child with one of the Trisomy's. Good luck with your decision. |
I would be really wary about 'feeling good' about a 'good' nuchal test. I was 32 when I fell pregnant and my nuchal came back as a 1 in 2 risk for Downs Syndrome. Needless to say I had a cvs test (not painful, and the risk of miscarriage is reduced if you get an expert in the field performing it) which came back clear and I have a healthy 9 month old. If I ever have another pregnancy I will not even bother with a nuchal test and simply opt for a cvs as a matter of course. I aknowledge I might feel differently if I have TTC issues. What I am trying to say is that I worry about false positives of nuchal even more than the false negative that I had. I lost a lot of faith in the usefulness and relevance of nuchal and a cvs/amnio really is the way to obtain a definitive answer. |
