What’s your student loan payment

It was forgiven during the pause. Huge weight off our shoulders.

Is someone else subsidizing your expenses? This seems really tough to pull off unless it’s your main/only expense or you aren’t repaying from your income.

Not a republican, good they voted it down. Why should I pay for you and me. Pay YOUR debt.

When I graduated from college I owed $65k. My salary was $35k. Student loan payment was $857.43 a month. My fiance and I moved in together and ate ramen noodles for years. His salary was similar but his loan was only $20k.

25 years later we have paid off the loans, have 2M in retirement and enough in our kids 529 plans to cover state school. Our combined salary is now $250k.

Got it from $130K to 60K before interest resumed. I have a ~225K salary. Not sure what my minimum is but plan to pay off ~$1500 a month.

The “you knew you were borrowing, you pay it off” argument ignores the fact that many of these loans are usurious and predatory and many people have paid the principal and then some and still have high balances.

Granted, some of this is due to the income-based repayment calculations and deferral. And lenders certainly are entitled to earn a return on the money they lend. But at some point the terms are truly horrific and impossible for an 18 yo to understand.

Less sympathy for loans taken for graduate schools leading to professional careers.

This kind of myopic thinking doesn’t see the forest for the trees. The economy is about to take a nose dive.

I owe $7700. I think monthly payments will be around $120. DH has about $3000 left to pay and I’m not sure what his payments will be (should check!).

HHI $250K

For the household it’s 100 bucks. Before mine was paid off it was 180 bucks. Both of our schools cost around 150-200k for 4 years - this was a while ago though. HHI: 700k

Bonus bonus points: I’m completely against loan forgiveness. I’ll even go as far as to say that those who can’t afford expensive colleges like mine shouldn’t go to expensive colleges like mine. Grad school debt should be a business decision, 200k on a phd on the role of women in Greek mythology isn’t a good deal unless you’re going to make money in your field to pay it back.

Minimum is $600ish, but we will keep at 36k per year (3k per month).

It’s related to dh’s career, not doctor, but extremely career-specific debt. Everyone in his career has it. Unless they came from wealthy families.

So, it’ll be done in 4y or less, whew!

Income now 120k Take home. Stands to rise this year.

Why did you purposely put your loans at 99,999.99?

How do undergrads borrow more than the maximum that a student loan will allow? I thought the max was around $28k over four years.

No one is subsidizing me. My rent is low and I don't spend much on anything else.
