Cheapest place to visit in Europe next June

Forget Croatia it’s been discovered, Slovenia however has not! Just as beautiful and lots of people that live in Vienna head to the Slovenia alps or coastline to vacation. Don’t forget once
you are in Europe it’s more affordable to travel from country to country than in the US. So get a good/cheap flight into Rome, take the train to Vienna, cross over to Croatia by ferry, use the Flixbus to travel up into Slovenia, use local buses to get around, end up in Trieste Italy, catch a local flight back to Rome and back to the US. That’s what we just did and it was amazing! We actually started in Switzerland and did 6 countries in 24 days. The tail end was the most affordable and that’s how we did it!

Oh please, I went to Slovenia 10 years ago and it was completely overrun. Sorry you couldn’t comprehend that.

^^And 6 countries in 24 days is absolutely absurd, you do know that right? Each of those countries deserves many weeks in its own right.

Indeed they do. But it's like a wine tasting. Sample six wines this time, then pick your favourite and buy a whole bottle, or even a case, next time.

Romania, Bulgaria, Albania.

Spain was very affordable for us this summer. Food and lodging were a lot less than the US and when we've travelled to Italy and UK in past years. Trains were also very cheap and we got a great price on a rental car. Although gas was still pricey.

Seconding this, although I felt the rental car was pricey (but these days rental cars are pricey everywhere). We snagged round trip tickets on Iberia for $500 each (economy seats), food was really inexpensive as were the hotels.

I’m the pp who wrote this. We originally had a few pricey car reservations booked for about $800 for 10 days. A week before we left for. our trip we checked prices and they had dropped by half. It was worth checking prices on a regular basis.

The year before that it was Northern Italy. Not as cheap, but not terrible.

+1- we loved Montenegro last summer

Also Cyprus is relatively affordable and less crowded

Not everyone has unlimited time or unlimited budget, so you make the most you can with the time and budget you have.

I like the idea of Slovenia. It’s no where near as tourist over-run as Croatia or Italy, but similar in many respects. Of course there are still places in those countries that also aren’t as tourist crazy…

I’m overwhelmed by all the options. And I know some places have cheap airfares but pricey hotels, or vice versa.

What are some of the most affordable places you’ve visited in Europe, including costs for airfare, lodging, food and local transportation?

Portugal seems to be a fair option. I’ve also heard Prague is cheap, is this a good place to visit with older kids?

Budapest?

Yes! Prague is my favorite city in all of Europe.

Lots of sex work in the Baltics. Hookers on every corner etc

Don't stay in a hotel. Stay in a rented apartment (through an agency) and stay put. It is so much more relaxing, quieter and in the end cheaper because you can also check out local grocery stores, the equivalent of deli-type places, etc. This works out to be cheaper in terms of food and it helps with restaurant fatigue.

Balkans maybe, not Baltics. Why would they be in Baltics?

Wow not OP but do you feel better about yourself now? You realize that there’s a wide range of incomes in this forum and not everyone can afford expensive trips multiple times per year? Are you saying only people of certain income deserve to explore different places? Sometimes I really hope people like you are trolls bc it’s hard to imagine a grown person thinking like this IRL.
