Tom Lake by Ann Patchett
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab |
| Almost finished Tom’s River and am somewhat erratically rereading the Amelia Peabody mysteries |
| Finished Learned by Heart by Emma Donoghue and Sing Her Down by Ivy Pochoda. I enjoyed both of them. I liked Sing Her Down a little more. |
Ooh I love the premise and the title. Was it a fast read? |
Floating Feldmans listener here. It wasn't super long or super short. Amazon says it is 368 pages. The audiobook was 11 hours long. Turns out just about every member of the family was keeping secrets from each other. I downloaded it from my library website. |
| I have literally never heard of any of these books, other than the one I mentioned. I don't know how or why that is the case. Any ideas? |
I just got Learned By Heart and looking forward to it. Going on a trip next week and taking along Tom Lake by Ann Patchett so anticipating some good reading. |
I often have this experience. I still list mine in hopes I someone with like taste will be reading these threads too and we can exchange recommendations. 😆 |
| These are the books I've read recently - Tom Lake, You Can't Stay Here Forever, The Lost Wife (loved). Just started Somebody's Fool. |
Are they all certain genre I'm unaware of? like Chick Lit or Romance? |
Do you guys use goodreads? I hadn't noticed Tom Lake until this thread but I saw it here, and then was perusing Goodreads last night, and saw it there again and decided to click on it and learn more, then I added it to my library hold list because it seemed interesting. |
\ I did try Goodreads but was really disappointed with the books so now I ignore it. |
PP who has also never heard of most of these books. I thought they were NYT best sellers or something? I mostly read genre fiction (mysteries, sci fi, romance, etc) and nonfiction and get my recs from friends or stuff I randomly pick up at the library so when everyone’s talking about books I’ve never heard of I assume they’re mainstream. |
Wait. Almost every book published in on good reads, whether it's traditionally published or self-published. Was it missing books you wanted? |
Ok that might be it. I lean towards literary fiction and avoid the popular "picks" because I feel like they're over-blown and always a bit of a disappointment. Though I might read them a few years later when all the fuss has died down. |
