Curfew for 16 year old that’s about to be 17 in a couple months?

11pm unless they have cleared it ahead of time

Another with no specific curfew. It depends on where he’s going, the weather and the day.

Agree with everyone saying no strict cutoff. Our kids have phones and means of transportation and they’ve proven themselves to be pretty responsible. They just do a quick call/text/convo when they’re planning something to let us know the who/what/where/when. That said, generally I’d like them home by 12 unless there’s a specific reason/plan (i.e. not just generic “hanging out with friends”).

My 16 yo daughter went to a concert in Philly with a friend. She didn’t get home until after 2 but I knew where she was and I knew it would be late. If she’s going to a friends to hang out I usually like her home by midnight.

How did she get there? Was another kid driving? A parent? Did they take the train/bus? Also, how often do you text during the evening?

So much depends upon the kid, honestly. Some are very mature, others not so much. My son is a lot more mature/independent/street smart than my daughter, who has some learning disabilities and has a very innocent personality.

We don’t want him on certain roads past 9 or 10 on Friday and Saturday night due to the crazy drag racing, so he’ll be home by 10 or plot a different route home. If he’s had a game (he is an athlete) we’ll ask him to think about whether he is too tired to drive safely at 11pm or whatever. It’s a conversation. That said, he is a low key kid, not a risk taker, and acts reasonably. I can see how for another kid a curfew would prevent constant arguments and provide clarity.

I think we are parenting the same kid.
